Adult Education at Kilbarrack

Our Group meet every Thursday 9.15 to 11.15 am. We have an average attendance of eleven to twelve women and blessed amongst us one man, Michael. Most of us have been part of this group for about two years. All mediums of painting are used, resulting in a variety of different styles and talents. During the past couple of terms we have had trips to various exhibitions. We are now looking forward to the forthcoming exhibitions in the Civic Offices in Dublin in which most of the class are exhibiting.
The encouragement, patience and enthusiasm we get from Lindsey has brought together a group of people who have found satisfaction and a sense of achievement in a hobby we all love.
Current affairs is a class where we talk and learn to listen to each other and to the many media voices around us.
A friend recommended Geraldine's class to me. Having satisfied myself that there was no exam and that note taking was optional, I enrolled. Two years later I consider myself an expert on nearly every topic and can hold my own in social situations rather than leaving the talking to others. I find myself concentrating on news items and reading interesting newspaper articles.
Each week in the current affairs group we discuss and follow up different stories in the media. Geraldine arrives with a long list of topics which she has researched but we rarely manage to cover them all. Subjects have ranged from meeting Traveller women from Pavee Point to discussing corporate globalisation by way of the spread of McDonalds Restaurants.
One topic leads to another. We solve the problems of the world and yet have time to laugh at ourselves and others - especially our politicians!
The only problem with this course is the long summer break as I'm often tempted to convene a special session to discuss the latest breaking news or scandal.
